XML Notepad 2007 – new release

Posted on Friday 29 August 2008

One of the members of the JKI team just pointed me to the new version (2.5.2798.17141) of XML Notepad.  The major improvement is performance — it’s MUCH faster!  The old version was pretty clunky (although, very feature rich and easy to use).

This free tool from Microsoft is very useful for editing and debugging XML when you’re working with XML data in LabVIEW (which doesn’t have to be hard).  Give it a try, and you’ll be happy that you did.

The speed issue has always bothered me as well (although it wasn’t terrible). Sounds like good news.

Used XML Notepad for some time and it’s simplicity is it’s real strength – though it has a few minor irritations (scroll bar doesn’t reset when you expand all for instance). I should say that I use it purely for viewing XML data – never used it for editing.

Tried XML Marker on advice of JCC, and while it looks generally more powerful it lacks simple things like the ability to expand all subtags and see a treeview-like representation of your XML doc in one window.

XML Notepad is still the tool of choice for me – just wish they’d release 2008 with bug fixes!
